The ‘Limited Time’ Lens

Happy smiling woman with curly hair lounging on couch.

I heard the song the other day “Live like you were dying” by Tim McGraw and it got me thinking.

Who would you BE if you only had a week to live?

Why is it that it seems to take a catastrophic event in our lives to jolt us out of our routine and get us to even think about living our life the way we want – doing what brings us joy and happiness, being playful and fun?

Is it because we need such a momentous event to break free from the limitations of our societal conditioning? Is this the only way we can give ourselves permission to do what we want and forget the rules that are keeping us bound?

We live our lives as if we are going to live forever. Putting off today what is important to us, because we can always do it tomorrow. Until maybe that tomorrow gets defined.

What things in your life would become insignificant? What things are you spending so much time and energy on yet if you looked at it through a different lens, it wouldn’t be that important?

So, let’s put on the ‘limited time’ (LT) lens, and how would you BE?

Through this ‘LT’ lens we focus in on what is it that truly makes up happy. We are able to put aside the ‘time wasters’ and become clear on what it is that makes us feel good. The things we want to do without obstacles. We become more present. We stop taking for granted nature around us, the incredible food that we partake in, the family and relationships we have been blessed with. We move ourselves into the bigger picture.

We see life as a gift. And the world and the people in it as gifts.

We are here as one. The person in south America picking your coffee beans and roasting them so you can enjoy that morning coffee. How sweet the smell!  Have you ‘taken the time to smell the coffee’ lately? Have you ever thought of how that person half way across the world who picked your coffee beans is impacting you today?  Have you considered how small little things that you may have done impacts others? Slow down and enjoy the moments, enjoy the connection with friends, family and those that you don’t know or see that are impacting you. This is what the LT lens does.

Living with the LT lens on moves you into a place of action, a place of gratitude, a place of love and a present moment presence. It quickly clarifies your life.

What do you want to do? Who do you want to be?

Don’t wait until it happens. Put your lens on now!

“I went Skydiving
I went Rocky Mountain climbing
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named Fumanchu
And I loved deeper
And I spoke sweeter
And I gave forgiveness I'd been denying
Someday I hope you get the chance to live like you were dying”

Make that day TODAY and TODAY ONWARD.
