Wealth vs. Prosperity
Wealth elevated is called Prosperity
When I was young, I watched my parents go to work, come home exhausted and cranky, watch TV at night, go to bed and then get up and do it all over again. I observed the same amongst my friends’ parents and it set the imprint for me of what life was, at least according to “society” (the media, TV, the general public). I remember that made me very sad.
Was this what life was truly about? People were living for retirement just to find out that they were so burnt out they weren’t able to enjoy this ‘freedom’ they worked their whole lives for?
I followed the masses and headed down the same path. There were very few notes of excitement in my daily functions in my chosen profession. Excitement came when I engaged with my team and we created a better way of working together - thinking outside the box as it was called. When that happened, the excitement and growth also permeated to the whole company. Yet, I would get slammed for breaking the rules. Structures were so rigid in the 80s and 90s. You lost your uniqueness, your creativity in lieu of so called ‘efficiency’.
Creativity was rarely cultivated and celebrated. The focus was on standardisation in the name of efficiency and saving money. Employees are the backbone of the companies yet few truly celebrate their workforce. It was a time when you were working for the investors - whoever those faceless figures were.
I would remind those that were set on continuing to build these limited ‘structures’ that “you are only as good as your people!” And, “People are your biggest asset!” Many agreed superficially, however the structures and conforming to them was easier than bucking the system to experiment with honouring those that were the backbone of the company.
My vision was to have people love coming to work. They would use their unique talents in ways that support and enhance the whole. We often spend more time at work than with our families. Why not have it be fun and fulfilling? And why did we have such a separation between work and home – our professional careers and our personal life? Are we not the same person?
Fun, supportive, refreshing, honouring, integrity - not always terms used in the corporate world and if used, they certainly weren’t embodied.
When team members are respected, honoured, and listened to,without judgement, they are engaged, and business soars. It’s a beautiful and easy by-product. Customers are happy, marketing is easy because customers do it for you. There is passion and creativity. Expansion and wealth flows.
To me this is Prosperity, not wealth. Wealth is making money and having money. Prosperity is where everyone is thriving. It’s beyond the material/money wealth. It benefits all of humanity. It’s where we create and operate from a place of inclusion, a place of integrity. The definition of integrity is actually “the state of being whole and undivided”. Undivided as a creative unit. Undivided from the environment. Undivided from the planet. In full coherence to all that exists.
The sum of the parts is greater than the whole.
Let us honour the old structures for they aided in advancing humanity and our economies. But now it's time to turn the tides to a movement of Prosperity.
LET'S THRIVE!
Be the Change.
